Job Description

Make a real impact on workplace wellbeing

The University of Queensland Union (UQU) is looking for an experienced Senior Wellbeing Advisor to help strengthen our workplace health, safety and psychosocial risk framework. This flexible part-time role (two days per week) can be structured across the week to suit your preferred working pattern.

This is a unique opportunity for a WHS professional who enjoys building systems, influencing leaders and improving organisational culture.

Working closely with the People & Culture Manager, you will play a key role in helping the organisation establish practical WHS systems, implement our safety management platform and embed stronger approaches to psychosocial risk management.

If you enjoy turning strategy into practical systems that protect people and strengthen organisations, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

About the role

Over a six-month engagement, you will help implement key elements of UQU’s emerging WHS and psychosocial safety framework.

You will work with leaders across the organisation to improve risk visibility, strengthen safety capability and embed consistent WHS practices.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting implementation of UQU’s WHS and psychosocial risk management framework

  • Leading the implementation and utilisation of the UQSafe WHS management system

  • Facilitating WHS and psychosocial risk assessments across operational areas

  • Providing specialist WHS and legislative advice to managers and leaders

  • Supporting incident management, investigations and corrective actions

  • Coordinating workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work processes

  • Developing WHS dashboards, reporting and risk registers

  • Delivering WHS training and capability uplift for leaders and managers

You will work with a high degree of autonomy while contributing to broader organisational improvements in safety governance, leadership capability and risk management.

About you

You are an experienced WHS professional who enjoys both strategic thinking and practical implementation.

You are comfortable advising leaders, building systems and helping organisations strengthen their approach to workplace wellbeing.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety, HR, Psychology, Risk Management or related discipline (or equivalent experience)

  • Demonstrated experience in a WHS advisory or risk management role

  • Strong knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld) and relevant Codes of Practice

  • Experience supporting workers’ compensation and return-to-work processes

  • Experience facilitating workplace risk assessments, including psychosocial hazards

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

  • The ability to work autonomously and influence leaders

Experience with WHS systems and working in complex operational environments will be highly regarded.

Why join UQU?

Working at UQU means being part of an organisation that supports student life and campus community at The University of Queensland.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Shape the organisation’s WHS and psychosocial safety foundations

  • Work with leaders to strengthen workplace wellbeing and culture

  • Enjoy a flexible part-time role with genuine impact

  • Work within a supportive People & Culture team

  • Contribute to the safety and wellbeing of a vibrant campus community
