About Banyo Cafe & Bar  

Banyo Café & Bar is owned and operated by the University of Queensland Union (UQU). We run a variety of outlets and services across UQ’s St Lucia, Gatton, Herston, and Dutton Park campuses, with Banyo Café & Bar being our only outlet located at a different university. 

About The Role  

We’re on the lookout for an energetic 2IC to support the supervision and daily operations of Banyo Café & Bar, located on the beautiful ACU Brisbane campus. 

This role provides leadership, direction, and support to help develop and sustain our successful business. You will deliver a high level of customer service while working alongside the team and providing hands-on support. 

This is a permanent part-time position, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. 

As the 2IC, you'll  

  • Complete regular banking duties and responsibilities  

  • Add value and generate sales through upselling food and beverage items  

  • Perform general café duties, including cleaning service areas and equipment  

  • Manage stock rotation, stock control, and stocktakes  

  • Ensure safe food handling and work practices are followed by the team  

  • Assist with staff management and rostering, leading the team to deliver a high-quality customer experience

  • The successful candidate will have: 

  • Exceptional customer service skills and a passion for supporting day-to-day operations  

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills  

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritise effectively  

  • Previous hospitality experience, with at least 3 years’ supervisory experience (including training, rostering, and working within budget)  

  • Demonstrated understanding of delivering excellent customer service in a service-oriented environment  

  • The ability to work autonomously, showing initiative and problem-solving skills  

  • Sound knowledge of WHS, manual handling, and food safety and hygiene practices  

  • A current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate and barista certification 

 

Required skills & Experience  

  • At least 1 year of customer service experience  

  • Experience with POS systems (e.g. SwiftPOS), EFTPOS, and cash handling  

  • Sound technical knowledge  

  • A team-player attitude, with a willingness to support both front and back of house  

  • Barista experience (highly regarded but not essential)
