Job Description

The Opportunity 

We are looking for a truly exceptional Payroll Officer to join our fun and energetic team at UQU. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for processing weekly payroll and maintaining accurate employee records. 

You will be a key member of the Finance team and work closely with the People & Culture team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of employee and payroll data. 

Salary will be commensurate with skills, experience and qualifications, with the remuneration range being $45,053 to $48,444 + 14% Superannuation.

This is a part-time role at 22.8 hours per week, with the working days Monday to Wednesday. 

The role also involves: 

  • Overseeing the weekly rostering process prepared by managers and providing assistance where required  

  • Understanding and applying pay rates and conditions under UQU’s Enterprise Agreement (EA) for staff and internal departments 

  • Processing weekly payroll and relevant payments, including net pay, superannuation, salary sacrifice and PAYG  

  • Maintaining accurate records relating to hours worked, training, leave, allowances and entitlements  

  • Ensuring payroll compliance, including STP, payroll journals, balance sheets, FBT returns, WorkCover, Centrelink, income protection and reporting requirements  

  • Responding to payroll-related queries from employees and managers  

  • Providing training and assistance to staff regarding rostering and clocking into the correct department  

  • Maintaining and updating employee payroll details within payroll systems  

  • Ensuring pay rates and tax rates are updated as required  

  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, external providers and community partners  

  • Assisting with interim and final audits  

  • Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures in conjunction with the Finance Manager  

  • Monitoring employee visa status, visa conditions and working hour restrictions  

  • Supporting other work-related tasks as directed by management  

  • Performing ad hoc duties and providing hands-on assistance where required  

  • Assisting with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) tasks as directed  

Is This You? 

We are looking for someone with: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline  

  • A minimum of 1–2 years’ experience working in payroll 

  • Previous experience using Employment Hero, and/or KeyPay systems (highly regarded) 

  • Experience working within a not-for-profit organisation (desirable)  

  • Strong technical and administrative skills, with excellent attention to detail and organisational ability  

  • The ability to work to strict deadlines while managing multiple priorities  

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students in a customer/student-centric environment, preferably within a tertiary education setting  

  • Experience working across different payroll systems  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  

  • Demonstrated experience in recording and maintaining accurate workplace documentation 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel
