The University of Queensland Union (UQU) is a not-for-profit organisation working to create the ultimate campus experience for the University of Queensland (UQ) student community.  

UQU runs a variety of food, beverage, retail and entertainment outlets across university campuses and offers a range of student support services, including advocacy, legal advice, and sponsorship of over 190 clubs and societies for UQ students. 

About Redroom 

UQU’s Redroom is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated 2IC to support the day-to-day operations of one of our busiest hospitality venues. 

Working alongside the Venue Supervisor, this is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to build their leadership capability and gain exposure across venue operations, team leadership, stock management, events and service delivery. 

As the 2IC, you will: 

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the venue and maintain high service standards  

  • Assist with event and function coordination and delivery  

  • Lead and support team members during service periods  

  • Provide on-the-job coaching and training to staff  

  • Complete opening and closing procedures and ensure venue readiness  

  • Assist with stock control, ordering, inventory management, and supporting effective cost control practices  

  • Monitor compliance with food safety, liquor licensing and WHS requirements  

  • Jump in and support operational areas during peak periods  

This is a part-time role (25 hours per week), with the opportunity to increase to 38 hours during semester peaks, working Monday to Friday. 

About You 

To be successful in this role, you will bring: 

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a fast-paced bar or hospitality environment 

  • Previous experience supervising, mentoring or leading a small team  

  • Strong customer service and communication skills  

  • Sound understanding of food safety, liquor licensing and WHS requirements  

  • Experience using POS systems and managing operational processes  

  • Ability to remain organised and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment 

  • Experience with AV systems and draught beer systems are highly regarded 

  • Kitchen or broader hospitality experience is highly regarded
