About UQU

With over 100 years of history, the University of Queensland Union (UQU) is a not-for-profit organisation with a bold vision: to create the ultimate campus experience for the UQ student community, led by students, for students.

Across our campuses, UQU operates a business trading arm of retail, food and beverage outlets alongside a wide range of student support services, from advocacy and legal advice to supporting more than 200 clubs and societies. Student-led and student-focused, UQU is committed to building a future that is financially strong, professionally run, and built to serve every UQ student.

Job Description

Our Workplace

Our professional team and elected student representatives work as genuine partners –  bringing together organisational expertise and student voice to deliver real outcomes for the UQ community. Together, we are committed to ensuring our people have the tools, knowledge and support they need to lead boldly and make their mark.

We are in the middle of a cultural shift at UQU – reimagining how we work, how we partner, and how we show up for students. It is an exciting time to be part of the organisation as we bring this vision to life.

About the Role

We're looking for an enthusiastic and people-focused Student Engagement Admin Officer to join our Community team in a casual capacity.

This is a hands-on operational role where you'll help bring UQU's student engagement and welfare initiatives to life. From supporting popular programs like Kampus Kitchen, Morning Marmalade and Student Engagement Services (SES) to assisting with events, campaigns and day-to-day activities, you'll help create welcoming, inclusive and vibrant experiences for students across campus.

Working alongside the Student Engagement & Communication Officer and the wider Community team, you'll engage directly with students, provide practical support during activities and help ensure programs run smoothly from setup through to pack down.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support the delivery of student engagement, welfare programs and events, including Kampus Kitchen, Morning Marmalade and Student Engagement Services.

  • Engage with students, provide information about UQU services and create welcoming, inclusive experiences across campus.

  • Assist with the setup, operation and pack down of activities, ensuring everything runs smoothly and safely.

  • Provide operational and administrative support, including preparing resources, maintaining participation records and assisting with logistics.

  • Support engagement campaigns by promoting activities, distributing resources and gathering feedback to help improve future initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively with the Community team to deliver outstanding student experiences.

About You

You're a friendly, reliable and proactive team player who enjoys working with people and creating positive experiences. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, are happy to roll up your sleeves and take a hands-on approach, and are passionate about supporting students and building community.

You'll bring:

  • Experience in customer service, hospitality, events, community engagement or a similar operational support role.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with a diverse range of people.

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A collaborative approach and a commitment to delivering outstanding service and positive student experiences.

  • Experience in a higher education, student union, not-for-profit or community environment will be highly regarded.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent experience) and a current Queensland Driver Licence are desirable.

Additional Information

  • Some out-of-hours work may be required to support events and activities.

  • A satisfactory Queensland Blue Card and/or Police Check may be required.

  • A current Queensland Driver Licence is desirable.

Why Join UQU?

At UQU, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to initiatives that have a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of students. You'll join a collaborative, values-driven organisation that encourages innovation, supports professional development and empowers its people to make a difference.
